Bottom Line: There is only one path to God, and His name is Jesus.

John 14:1-6 NLT

1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

John 1:6-10 NIV
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

1. Jesus is the only way to the Father.

John 14:6 NLT

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Romans 1:25 NLT
25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

2. Jesus is the ultimate truth that leads to God.

Matthew 16:25 NLT

25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

John 5:39-40 NLT
39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

John 3:16 NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 5:39-40 NLT

39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

3. Jesus is where we find everlasting life with God.

START TALKING:
This week we talked about a bold statement from Jesus in John 14:6 — that there is
only one path to God, and His name is Jesus.
We explored how in life there are often multiple ways to do things, but some things
can only be done one specific way. In the same way, the Bible teaches that Jesus is
not a way to God, but the way, the truth, and the life.
We saw that Jesus spoke these words to comfort His disciples shortly before His
crucifixion, showing them that He alone provides the way to the Father, the ultimate
truth, and everlasting life.

Discussion prompts:
Think of a time when there was only one way to accomplish something. How did that
make you feel?

Why do you think people struggle with the idea that Jesus is the only way to God?

What have you heard people say about how to get to heaven or have a relationship
with God?

START THINKING:
Read John 14:1–6
What do you notice about Jesus’ tone and purpose when speaking to His disciples?
What does Jesus mean when He says He is “the way, the truth, and the life”?
Why do you think Thomas asked his question in verse 5?
What does it mean that no one comes to the Father except through Jesus?

Read John 1:6–10
How is Jesus described in this passage?
What does it mean that Jesus is the light coming into the world?
Why do you think people sometimes fail to recognize Him?

Read Romans 1:25
What does it mean to trade the truth about God for a lie?
What are some things people look to for truth or fulfillment instead of God?

Read Matthew 16:25 and John 3:16
What does Jesus teach about finding life?
How is Christianity described as life replacement rather than life enhancement?
What does eternal life mean in these passages?

START SHARING:
Jesus says He is the way. Where do people commonly look for direction or purpose
apart from Him?

Jesus says He is the truth. What “truths” does our culture promote that may compete
with what Jesus teaches?

Jesus says He is the life. Where do people typically look for fulfillment or a better
life?

Share a time when you realized that what you thought would satisfy you did not.

What helps you trust Jesus as the ultimate source of truth and life?

START DOING:
What does it look like for you personally to follow Jesus as the way in your daily life?

Are there areas of your life where you have lost your focus on Jesus and need to
refocus?

How can you share your story of how Jesus has changed your life with others?

What is one practical step you can take this week to pursue truth and life in Jesus
instead of other sources?

How can you help point someone else toward Jesus this week?

START PRAYING:

Pray together as a group:
Thank Jesus for being the way, the truth, and the life.

Ask God to help you trust Jesus as the only path to the Father.

Ask Him to help you recognize truth and not trade it for lies.

Pray for courage to follow Jesus fully and share Him with others.

Ask God to help your church point people to Jesus so they may find the way, the truth, and life.

MULTIPLICATION
Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:

  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
