Baptism
If you’ve given your life to Jesus but haven’t gone public with your story through baptism, now is the time to take that step! Baptism is an opportunity to publicly declare your faith, celebrate God’s work in your life, and take the next step in your journey with Jesus. We would love to walk with you through this process, answer your questions, and help you experience the joy of declaring your faith through baptism.
Mark the baptism box on your Connection Card, and we’ll help you get started!

Bottom Line: Every earthly crisis has a spiritual reality behind it.

Job 1:1 NLT
There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.

Job 1:6-8 NLT
One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the LORD, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them.“Where have you come from?” the LORD asked Satan. Satan answered the LORD, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”

1. There is always more happening than I can see.

Job 1:9-11 NLT
Satan replied to the LORD, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God.You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is!But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

2. Adversity is used to attack my faith.

Job 1:12-21 NLT
“All right, you may test him,” the LORD said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the LORD’s presence. One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting at the oldest brother’s housea messenger arrived at Job’s home with this news: “Your oxen were plowing, with the donkeys feeding beside themwhen the Sabeans raided us. They stole all the animals and killed all the farmhands. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: “The fire of God has fallen from heaven and burned up your sheep and all the shepherds. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”While he was still speaking, a third messenger arrived with this news: “Three bands of Chaldean raiders have stolen your camels and killed your servants. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: “Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother’s home.Suddenly, a powerful wind swept in from the wilderness and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship. He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!”

3. Adversity reveals what I really believe.

Job 1:22 NLT
In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God.

4. The way to win the battle remains the same: stand.

START TALKING:
What is an example of something you experience in your everyday life or of something you follow that has more going on behind the scenes than what you can see? What is the "battle behind the battle" that is taking place?

START THINKING:
Read Job 1:1 and 1:8.
Why do you think we have this same description twice? Knowing what is about to come Job's way, how does this seem to debunk the idea of karma and similar thinking?

Read Job 1:2-5.
What does this tell us that proves 1:1 and 1:8 to be true? Why do you think we are given these details about Job's life? What does it show about who he really was and what he had been blessed with?

Read Job 1:9-11.
What does the accuser believe about why Job is a godly man? What does Satan make clear is going to be his plan of attack? What is he really trying to destroy in Job's (and your) life?

START SHARING:
In Job 1:6-12, an entire conversation is happening in the heavenly realm that Job is completely unaware of before the crisis even comes his way. When you think back on adversity and crisis that you have faced in life, how can you now see that there was more happening behind the scenes than you could see in the moment?

In Job 1:11, the enemy makes his intent clear: take away everything that Job has to take away his faith. What is an adversity or a crisis that you have faced that you now see had a spiritual reality behind it that your faith was being tested? What made you question your faith and question God? What led you to trust God and stand firm? What did you learn from this crisis?

Job's crisis revealed what he really believed. Read Job 1:20-22 to see what it was. What do you think Job had to do long before the crisis came to be able to stand this firm? When you faced your crisis, what did it honestly reveal about what you believed?

START DOING:
What can you do this week to build your faith before the crisis and adversity comes?
Read 2 Corinthians 4:18.
How can you do what this verse teaches? How can we help each other and encourage each other both before we face adversity and in the midst of adversity?

What is a crisis or adversity that you might be facing now? How can we all be praying and supporting each other through the adversities and crises that are shared?

How can you use an adversity or crisis that you have faced to tell your own story of faith and standing firm in the battle? How can you help people - your "one" - who may be far from God see that battle behind the battle through your own story?

START PRAYING:
Pray for each person in the micro church and the adversity and crisis that they shared. Pray that each of us stand firm in our faith, know that is what is really being attacked. Pray that each of us have an opportunity to share the story of Jesus prevailing in the battle behind the battle with others in our life who are facing crisis and adversity.

MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?

WHAT'S NEXT?
  - Discuss the next step for your micro church. When will we gather again, and which purpose will it fulfill (missions, fellowship/care, growth, worship, multiplication)?
