Night of Worship, September 30 – 7:00pm – Ball Road Campus
OneLifers from both campuses are coming together for a powerful Night of Worship centered around the awe and power of God. Through worship, prayer, and communion, we’ll turn our attention to who God is—His greatness, His holiness, and His power—and respond together in worship. Come expectant. Come ready to worship. Starting Point for Kids & Parents, October 11
Is your child asking questions about following Jesus, baptism, or what it means to have a relationship with God? Our Starting Point Class is designed for 3rd-5th Graders and their parents to explore these important conversations together. During this interactive class, families will discover what the Bible teaches about salvation, learn the foundations of the Christian faith, and talk through what it means to trust and follow Jesus. Parents will also receive practical tools to continue these conversations at home, helping them confidently lead their child in their faith journey. We want every 3rd-5th Grade parent to sign up for this one hour experience! Our next class will be Sunday, October 11th in the large group room at both campuses. Bottom Line: Worship changes my focus from the battle in front of me to the God who fights for me.

Worship: Choosing to give God the attention, affection, allegiance, and obedience He is worth - regardless of what is happening around me

2 Chronicles 20:5-9 NLT

Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the LORD.He prayed, “O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!O our God, did you not drive out those who lived in this land when your people Israel arrived? And did you not give this land forever to the descendants of your friend Abraham?Your people settled here and built this Temple to honor your name.They said, ‘Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war, plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.’

1. Worship remembers who God is.

He doesn't start with the size of the army. He starts with the size of his God.

2 Chronicles 20:10-12 NLT

“And now see what the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are doing. You would not let our ancestors invade those nations when Israel left Egypt, so they went around them and did not destroy them.Now see how they reward us! For they have come to throw us out of your land, which you gave us as an inheritance.O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.”

2. Worship admits what I am not.

2 Chronicles 20:13-19 NLT

As all the men of Judah stood before the LORD with their little ones, wives, and childrenthe Spirit of the LORD came upon one of the men standing there. His name was Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite who was a descendant of Asaph.He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel.But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the LORD’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you!”Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the LORD.Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout.

3. Worship believes God before I see God move.

2 Chronicles 20:21 NLT

After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the LORD; his faithful love endures forever!”

4. Worship goes before me into the battle.

2 Chronicles 20:22 NLT

At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.

2 Chronicles 20:27 NLT

Then all the men returned to Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat leading them, overjoyed that the LORD had given them victory over their enemies.

5. Worship reminds me whose battle this really is.

START TALKING:

When have you been in a situation, like a little child jumping off the end of a diving board for the first time, where your fear of the unknown in front of you needed to shift focus to someone or something bigger? Maybe it was a teacher, coach, family member, or friend that you knew had the solution, and when they showed up it allowed your focus to shift and fear or worry to fade.

START THINKING:

Read 2 Chronicles 20:1-4.

What battle is on its way to Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah?

What was his immediate emotion?

What was his immediate response?

What was the response of all the people?

Thinking about each of the above answers, why do you think they each responded the way they did?

START SHARING:

Read 2 Chronicles 20:5-9.

Jehoshaphat doesn't start with the size of the army or battle he's facing. He starts with the size of his God. But what's interesting, is he does this by looking back at all the battles God has already won. In his worship, he remembers how big his God has already been. Share examples from your life of how big God has been for you. What battles can you reflect on that He has won that can become part of your regular worship response?

Read 2 Chronicles 20:12.

A crucial aspect of Jehoshaphat's worship was admitting that he doesn't have the answer or solution to the battle. What battle have you faced or are you facing that you "do not know what to do," at least if you were really honest? What solutions have you tried on your own rather than starting with God's bigness first and waiting for Him to give you the solution?

Read 2 Chronicles 20:13-21.

The battle isn't going to happen until tomorrow, but they are already believing God will win. They are already worshipping Him and thanking Him! Not only that, they are doing it in community, not alone - likely a way to encourage each other and fight for the faith of each other in the face of a huge battle. When have you trusted God will win before the battle even began? When have you seen the faith and worship of others in community build your own faith when the battle was waging agains you?

START DOING:

The battle was being won - which was completely unseen by the people of Judah - at the moment they began to praise. The truly used praise and worship as their weapon instead of taking up the fight for themselves!

How can you do the same this week? What can you do to discipline yourself to remember that the unseen battle is really for your faith, and so you:

1. Worship to remember how big God is? What will you actually do?
2. Worship to admit that I am not? What will you actually do?
3. Worship to believe God before you see God move? What will you actually do?

How can you share your own testimony related to this to make a difference in the lives of people where you live, work, and play, or in the life of your "one"? What would the before - Jesus - after story be? Before I led with worship in my battle, I __________. I began to start with worship instead of fighting on my own when ___________. Now I can see how God ___________ in my battle.

START PRAYING:

Pray for the battles that each person in the micro church shared. Rather than simply praying, start with worshipping - bowing before God literally or metaphorically to remember how big He is and how small we are. Praise Him for already winning the battle, and thank Him that in doing this He is really winning the battle for your faith. Pray that each of us will take this story to those who are far from God and show them the victory that only Jesus can offer.
