Bottom Line: God is there when I can't see a way out.

Matthew 1:18-19 NLT
This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.

1. Seeing only the crisis can hide the miracle.

Matthew 1:20-21 NLT
As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

2. Seeing better requires listening better.

Matthew 1:22-24 NLT
All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife.

3. Seeing God's Word and work alive changes everything.

START TALKING:
When have you experienced something - either in a moment or in a season of life - where you could see the inevitable crisis coming and it was all you could see at the time?

START THINKING:
Why do you think Joseph jumped straight to a solution without first considering God's plan? How were his reactions justified - even spiritually - at first before he considered God's plan?

START SHARING:
When have you reacted to a crisis without first seeing God's word and work? How did it change, or how would it have changed, if you had turned to God first rather than your solution?

START DOING:
What crisis are you facing now (or do you anticipate going forward) that will require you to see God's Word and work alive before finding your own solution? What will you do about it?

START PRAYING:
Pray that God will give each of you more patience to hear what His word says and what His work is showing you so that you can experience His miraculous work in your life more than you experience your own solutions to the crisis of the day.

MULTIPLICATION

Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
