BOTTOM LINE: We all need a reset.

Colossians 2:22-23 NLT

22 Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. 23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.

1. Old patterns are hard to kill.

Colossians 3:1 NLT

1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

2. Reset is categorical not incremental.

Colossians 3:1-2 NLT

1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

3. Reset requires a new software.

Colossians 3:3-4 NLT

3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

4. Reset leads to new results.

START TALKING
What are some resets we all see in life? Whether it’s big things like starting a new career, or the smallest examples like resetting the Nintendo - share some examples you’ve seen or experienced where a reset was necessary!

START THINKING
Read Colossians 2:22-23. What “old patterns” (as Rodney said in the sermon) is this verse talking about? How does that religion creep into all of our lives and all of our faith journeys? Why is religion so dangerous and why does it require a reset?

What are some examples of incremental shifts versus categorical shifts in everyday life (think about the rotary phone to touch dial phone vs the cell phone categorical shift Rodney mentioned)?

Read Colossians 3:1. Why is our faith in Christ a categorical shift and not just an incremental shift?

START SHARING
Read Colossians 3:2. What does it mean for YOU to think about the things of heaven? How is this a categorical shift from how you used to think before Jesus?

Read Colossians 3:3. How are you tempted not to die to this life? What encouragement do you get knowing the gracious and forgiving nature of God. How does that push you to strive to live more in this new or “reset” life?

START DOING
Read Colossians 3:4. What does it mean for you to share in God’s glory? How will you share this with others where you live, work & play?

As Easter is approaching, who in your life do you need to start being intentional with? What names come to mind? How will you share this categorical reset that you’ve experienced with them?

START PRAYING

Pray for the names you just talked about. Pray for each other and that God would help all of you to continue to pursue thoughts of heaven daily!

MULTIPLICATION
Share spiritual/missional conversations you've had where you live, work, and play:
  - Who did you have a conversation with that took a spiritual/missional turn this week?
  - What questions did you ask to discover where God is at work in their life, even if they are not aware?
  - How were you able to share your story of life change or how you have experienced Jesus?
  - How can you be intentional this week with people where you live, work, and play to have spiritual/missional conversations if the opportunity arises?
  - Who in your life do you think could be disciple-able or open to spiritual/missional conversations?
