THINK IT OVER

Think back through Sunday’s message. What stuck out?

Key Scripture:

Mark 1:35-38

Bottom Line:

A life on mission is a life with margin.

Key Notes:

  • Just like we fight to keep the sun off our bodies to not get sunburn, Jesus gave us an example to fight to keep rest in our life so we don’t get burned out in life!
  • Stay spiritually fresh! Living on mission means constantly emptying my cup. I have to make sure I make time and fight for margin so my cup can be filled back up.
  • Don’t give in to the demands around me. Jesus showed in this passage that the demands will always be there. Giving into every demand will only empty my cup more and more.
  • Say no to say yes! Every time I say yes to one thing, I am saying no to something else. Jesus was willing to say no to the temporary so he could say yes to the eternal.
  •

TALK IT OVER

Start Talking – Get the conversation started!

  • What is your worst sunburn story?
  • Do you or anyone you know go to extremes to protect against the sun during summer? What are those extremes?

Start Thinking

  • Read Mark 1:35-38. When did Jesus go pray? Why did he do it then? What does this symbolize?
  • What was stressing the disciples out? How did they respond to that stress versus how Jesus responded to it?
  • What did Jesus’ response in verse 38 show the disciples about how focused Jesus was on his mission? What does this response seem to show his mission is?

Start Sharing

  • How do you keep your cup filled spiritually? When have you felt the most “fresh” or rested, and why was it?
  • Where do you most enjoy pouring your cup back out? Not because of demands, but because of your mission or your choice? Often times our cup is filled by pouring it out in the right ways and right places!
  • Do you ever feel like Jesus did when the disciples came saying, “Everyone is looking for you!” When do you feel these demands the most?
  • Are you more likely to give in to the demands or fight for margin? Why?
  • Jesus said no to say yes, but we aren’t very good at that. Why are we not good at saying no?

 Start Doing

  • What can you do this week to stay spiritually fresh? Is there a time or a day that you can take some time to get your cup filled back up?
  • What can you or should you say no to this week that is temporary? What can you or should you say yes to this week that is eternal?
  • What can you or should you say no to this week that is temporary? What can you or should you say yes to this week that is eternal?

Start Praying

  • As you pray, thank God for giving you an example of how you can fight for margin in your life so you can stay on mission.
  • Confess to God where you are guilty of saying no to Him and his eternal mission for you because you are saying yes to other things that are temporary.
  • Ask God to help you rest so you can fulfill the mission he has for you to use your one life to make a difference.

Start Digging

  • Mark 1
